Death on the Cross

Luke 23.44-46:

It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.

Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!”

Having said this he breathed his last.

At the moment of Jesus’ death, the curtain in the Temple, which separated men from the holy of holies, tore from top
to bottom. This was terrifying for all the Jews who witnessed the event, who did not realize it signified the end to the Old Covenant and the beginning of the New Covenant.

No longer would man have to suffer separation from God because of sin. Instead, we would now be able to approach
the throne of grace boldly in prayer for the forgiveness of all our sins.

The life and sacrificial death of Jesus had removed this barrier of sin, making it possible for man to obtain salvation by grace, restored to fellowship with the Lord God Almighty, as well as with all others who bear His glorious image.

We adore you, oh Christ, and we thank you.
By your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.
Lord Jesus, help us walk in your steps
.”
