JOHN: The Beloved Disciple

Love is much easier to talk about than to actually, truly do. Even if we  genuinely care about someone, we can still become defensive when difficulties come, as self-protection urges us to pull away. Good intentions (even the best ones) can’t really carry us very far. We need a grace-shaped love that doesn’t let go of truth but moves us toward people rather than retreating away.

One of Jesus’ most beloved disciples, John, knew what it was like to react quickly and want to be noticed. Yet, as he stayed close to Jesus, something changed in him. He began to see people differently and came to understand faithfulness to His Creator in a new way. His life and writings show what can happen when Christ’s love reaches into our lives and begins reshaping who we are at core.

Message Series Description:

Our culture values safety, predictability, and control. We like safety and surety. But beneath the surface, many of us feel the pull of something greater, a longing for meaning that cannot be satisfied by what is comfortable or easy. Leaning into faith unsettles the illusion of security and forces us to wrestle with notions of trust, courage, and what we're ultimately living for.

What if the life God intends is not tame, but an adventure worth risking everything for? What if the unknown becomes the place where we find His presence most real, His promises most sure, and His joy most complete? And what if adventurers living out this kind of life thousands of years ago can show us how to do the same today?
